2nd Round of Domestic Contracts Announced

Published on 30 Jun 2018

Northern Districts Cricket have promoted from within their ranks and offered two promising young guns, Sean Davey and Matthew Fisher, contracts for the 2018-19 season.

Director of High Performance Programs Peter Zanzottera is thrilled with the inclusion of the two. "We are happy that our last two contracts could go to two local boys whose skills add real value to our group."

A genuine all-rounder,  Sean Davey has risen up the ND ranks from the age of 14 and played for New Zealand in the U19 World Cup in 2012. He made his Knights debut in the 2017/18 Burger King Super Smash against Otago. "Sean was outstanding at ND A level with the bat and ball and thoroughly deserves his opportunity." says Zanzottera.

At only 18 years old, pace bowler Matthew Fisher has already started to make his mark and is well known for his quick deliveries, Zanzottera sees this as a huge advantage to the team. "Matthew had a breakthrough 2017/18 and was a spearhead for the NZ U19 World Cup team. His extra pace adds a point of difference to us."

Originally only having one extra player to add from the 1st round announcement, the additional contract became available with Anton Devich declining  in order to pursue an opportunity to play in Australia's Big Bash League.
